Rock’n’Roll Bedtime Stories

Young Aya loves it when her dad tells her a bedtime story. But her father, Mo, has a dilemma: he doesn't know many children's stories, and he finds sugar sweet tales of damsels in distress unbearable. On the other hand, he's well-versed in rock 'n' roll. He knows plenty of inspiring, exciting, and incredible stories... that are also true! It’s these fables from the world of rock 'n' roll that he turns into bedtime stories.

Rock'n'Roll is full of incredible yet overlooked stories. They make up the foundation of our modern culture, yet they are little known.

We want to bring some of these stories to light in a way that appeals to children and their parents. Each book tells a true story, adapted for young readers through the main characters, Aya and her father Mo, reflecting the child's own experiences and concerns. The books will include an “Author’s Note” with additional factual details for the adult reader and archival photos that serve as inspiration for some of the book’s drawings while highlighting the connection with actual history. A playlist is included to bring the story to life and adds fun while reading. In addition to this first book, we have ideas for at least three more.

This is a labour of love co-created with my partner. It was self-published in March 2024 in both English and French.

Keep The Faith

In this first book, Mo chooses a special story for Aya as she grapples with her own insecurity.

Through Mo’s voice, we tell the little-known incredible tale of the most expensive music single record ever sold. This captivating song and its singer were destined to obscurity, were it not for a little intrigue and a passionate community in 1970’s England, who lived for the music of cast-off, black American artists, turning the song into a major hit. Their slogan and the book’s title is “Keep the faith!”
